Wasting Away in Margaritaville Casino

Parrotheads can rejoice as the Flamingo Casino in Las Vegas is opening a new Jimmy Buffet-themed casino which will be unveiled on October 1. The new Margaritaville Casino at the Flamingo joins the existing Margaritaville restaurant and will include 15,000 square feet of gaming space.

The transformation of the old casino area will see it get a facelift that includes palm trees and a tropical decor, with the world's largest margarita -- clocking in at 8,500 gallons -- prepared to celebrate the grand opening. The Guinness Book of World records will be on hand to document the monster drink, which includes over 2,000 gallons of tequila.

Jimmy Buffet himself will be visiting later in October to play several concerts but no word yet if you'll be able to find him at the "5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar" at the casino, which is aiming for a laid-back tropical vibe reminiscent of various Buffet tunes.

US casinos as a whole have struggled over the last few years and Vegas has been no exception, although revenues have begun to stabilize in the last year and even increase slightly for some casinos.

While tourists are increasingly returning to Vegas the city still faces a glut of casinos and hotels that were built during the last boom, leaving many properties to continue to drastically reduce room rates in order to keep room occupation rates up.
