Huck Seed Hits Huge Video Poker Jackpot
Poker pro Huck Seed made headlines last week for a big score in a slightly different game, winning a $670,655 video poker jackpot while playing at the Aria casino in Las Vegas.
Seed was playing for $500/hand chasing the progressive jackpot when he hit a royal flush and had been playing for more than 6 hours when it finally hit, erasing a $50,000 loss and giving him one of the biggest paydays of his gambling career.
Seed is considered one of the best all-around poker players in the world, having won WSOP bracelets in Omaha, Razz, and No Limit Hold'em events -- including winning the biggest event of them all when he was crowned the 1996 Main Event champion and took home a $1 million payday.
Many US casinos offer progressive jackpots for games including slots, video poker, and Pai Gow, giving players a shot at a much larger payday than most games would pay out for normal jackpots.
While many poker pros steer clear of video poker and other standard casino games, some with progressive jackpots can actually be profitable to play, which was the case with Seed's jackpot win.
Before playing he calculated that due to the size of the jackpot he'd have a small edge versus the house -- about $3/hand -- but with much of that edge only being realized if he hit for a big score, which is almost always the case with big progressive jackpots that become favorable for players.
